Hello, lads and lasses.
I know I'm not exactly a frequent poster, but I've come back to view all of your lovely research and came across an old post that I had commented on with photos of extant half boots. Since rediscovering that post, I'm feeling a bit inspired to share with you all of the lovely half boots that I've saved from museum archives. I hope you enjoy my collection!
Leather Boots, 1780-1795 (Met)
These are a particular favorite of mine - side-lacing boots from smack in the middle of the Regency period! This pair resides at the Met Museum, from 1790-1820.
European half boots, 1795-1825 (Met)
American boots, 1810-1829 (Met)
Top, side-lacing boots; 1830
Middle and lower front-lacing boots; 1812-1820 (all boots from the V&A)
Half boots in sandal style, 1820 (Manchester)
These next boots start at the cusp of Regency and Romantic eras. As I mentioned in my comment here regencysa.proboards.com/index.cgi?action=display&board=sundries&thread=668&page=1#6642", I believe that if we have side-lacing boots so near to our beloved Regency period, they probably existed in the period, as well (or at least near the tail end). And let's not forget the even stronger evidence of those side-lacing boots that I posted above! Whether you agree or not is up to you, but here are some pretties to gawk at either way
Wool and Satin Boots, 1825-1835 (Manchester)
Side-Lacing Leather Boots, 1825-1840 (Manchester)
Green Damask Gaiter Boots, 1830 (Vintage Textile)
Alpaca boots, 1830 (Manchester)
Photobucket seems to think that I've deleted a photo I want to include, even though I reuploaded it, so I attached the photo. They are a pair of Nankeen boots from 1795-1810 (Virginia Review).
I hope y'all enjoy the inspiration!
