Finally watched this version. I'm not a Gwyneth Paltrow fan in general, and much preferred the Mr. Knightley in the A&E version...however...
...I still grinned like an idiot all the way through it. *romantic sigh*
"Pride and Prejudice" will never stop being my favorite all-time story...but this one has really snuck up on me, and I seem to like it more all the time.
But I was disappointed in the "big romantic ending" in this movie version. It just...fell flat for me. Not enough intensity in the whole "time will heal your wounds" and all for me.

I just finished watching Emma again on TV. I was planning on watching the special on the Royal Family, but I couldn't pull myself away. I just love it, and all Gwyneth's costumes. And this time I paid more attention to Harriet Smith's costumes because her's have always perturbed me. Her bustline, to be specific. I kept thinking *maybe* she had a large bust so that's what made it so odd. But now I see it's because they made the bustline curve up in the middle so the girls are pushing upwards in a very weird way. Why in the world did they do that? To make her look worse than Gwynnie? She was wearing a more normal bustline dress later and she didn't look malformed. She looked good. This has bothered me for quite a long time, and I can't see any sense in the design, other than making her not so attractive. And sorry for those of you who don't like the Gwynneth version but you can't beat the scene btn her and Mr Knightley when he proposes in the orchard. Now that's romantic.

I just saw this for the first time in a long time and I thought it was very sweet. I liked it ever so much better than the book because Emma was spoiled, but likable.

I watched the A&E version last night (I'm down with the flu right now and catching up on some movies). I can't say I like one version more than the other. They both have their good points and some things that could have been better. But I will say that I really like the overall story of 'Emma'. I think both versions are romantic, just perhaps in a slightly different way.

I have such a crush on Jeremy Northam, I thought he was the perfect Knightly.
And how hard it must be to make a spoiled snob likeable! I thought Gwyneth Paltrow was fabulous in it, especially seeing her shame at the picnic.
And I always felt that way about Harriet!! I thought I was crazy! Thank goodness that's not true!

I like this movie and I have it on DVD. Besides "Shakespeare in Love" this is the only other Paltrow movie I like. I love Jeremy Northam in this film and Alan Cummings is also great.
