Does anyone other than me start behaving like a regency wife while they are reading Jane Austen novels or watching period films. I am being oddly polite to my husband and he clearly likes it. I am arguing with him less. I laugh at his jokes even if they aren't funny. I gently encourage him to do the things that he doesn't yet know that he wants to do.

I think the gentility that influences us so easily is what we all secretly yearn for. I'm not sure if I treat my hubby differently; but it certainly makes me appreciate how romantic and loving he can be, and how much I lucked out finding him.

I have to give an amen to this post. Not only do I treat him better, I become a better person. Being the happy wife who loves to cook his meals, serve him and spend time in the yard tending to the gardens which is usually his job. As some other post stated before, even my speech changes and I find myself speaking like the books. My two teenage daughters laugh at me and sometimes look at me with a puzzled look. I must say it has truly extended my vocabulary. I believe that regency is not just a time period, it is a state of mind. We long for all the things in that era and tend to find ourselves in our own little fantasy world. Although, I must give warning. Sometimes in my experince, when I'm in my Jane Austen mode, I tend to get a little upset when my husband doesn't quite react like Mr. Darcy when I that was the reaction I was expecting. He is a man's man, and gentility does not flow from him easily. So, just keep this in mind for all the women who have hubbies. Don't try to make them live up to the expectations of the character of your books like I often do to my poor hubby. Fortunatly, he's very patient with my insanity.
