Federalist & Regency Costume: 1790-1819 By R.L. Shep
ISBN: 091404625X

Primary source goodness! This book contains the reprints of two editions (1796 &1809) of a period manual on tailoring, with illustrations, along with a number of fashion plates and some explanatory material.
The only drawback is that this is a period manual on tailoring, meant for professional tailors well versed in their art, and familiar with the terminology of the day. However, if you compare the illustrations with the pattern you are working on, and they look the same, you know you're doing it right.

I spent the day at the library today and spent tons of time reading though this book. It is fantastic. I wanted to copy every single page from it since it is not available on Amazon. The special notes given for thin men, fat men, and tall men, were particularly interesting to me. I am going to be on the look out for these books from now on.

This book is no longer available at lacis.com -- so sad! I can only seem to find copies online for $100 or more, and it is not in our county library. I am pretty sure that we had a copy at my old job, so I may ask a coworker to let me photo copy it...

$100? That's dreadful!
Does your library have any inter-library loan system? Here in California it's pretty easy to get books through the LINK+ system from a wide variety of municipal and university libraries.
