It is a pleasure to meet you all! My name is Amy, and I'm currently a history grad student writing a thesis on English country dance in America. I've been a Jane Austen addict for eleven years, even adapting and producing my own stage version of Northanger Abbey in college. I've been an English country dancer for five years, and I've been making my own historical costumes for just over a year now. Thus far, I've created one 1770s and one that was supposed to be 1640s, and my next project is an 1804 gown, which I hope to complete over Christmas break. For the time being, I'm using commercial patterns, but eventually, in the interest of accuracy, I hope to invest in the Patterns of Fashion series. Here's a rather poor quality picture of my 1770s gown: photos-b.ak.facebook.com/photos-ak-sf2p/v17/120/17/7603875/n7603875_30711465_937.jpgHere's one of my 1640s gown, which I tried to modify from a Tudor pattern, with moderate success: img.photobucket.com/albums/v477/modernmorland/crop.jpg

What an absolutely beautiful 1770's gown. And how appropriate that you live in Williamsburg. I am looking forward to your contributions to these discussions.

Hello. Welcome. Wow, your 1770's gown is amazing. I am so glad that you have joined our online party. I love all of our new members. Northanger Abbey is so far my favourite of the Jane Austen Novels. I haven't read them all yet.

Ms. Place--it's nice to see another Virginia resident here! I attended W&M and subsequently refused to leave, and now my parents have moved down from New York to enjoy the warm weather in their retirement. I hope my contributions to the community will be worth noting; I'll certainly do my best. Cosmo--I'm pleased to find another Northanger fan! I feel that it is the unfortunate fate of that novel to be misunderstood, underappreciated, and largely forgotten, particularly among the non-Jane-Obsessed. It may not be as mature stylistically, but it has all the fun of the juvenilia. Further, I must admit that Henry Tilney has much the same effect on me as he had on Catherine.

Indeed, welcome! Your gowns are lovely with a capital L. There are lots of folks with ideas and expertise to offer in the costume department. Don't be shy to post threads, and enjoy yourself here. You shouldn't hesitate to PM me or post in the 'tell us' thread if you have any comments or questions.
Again, Bienvenue!

Welcome! Goblin, Esq. and I do a fair amount of country dance locally (though much less since the baby was born) and it's a great topic. Glad to have you here!
