Greetings to the ladies (and lords) of the forum,
My name is (ostentiously) Melandra - which of course is entirely made up.
In truth I am Alinta Brown (or Hamilton-Brown as my mother and aunt have pushed on a number of occasions) a single mother of nine and twenty.
I am a member of the colonials - namely Australia which was only just being set up as both a colony and a dumping ground for convicts at the time of Jane's life.
My favourite books are Persausion and Pride and Prejudice. Next in line are Mansfield Park (not at all bad when you managed to slog through it) Sense and Sensibility Northanger Abbey
But I must confess, I have yet to read Emma. Every time I try it gets thrown across the room. The girl BUGS me. I've managed to sit through the Hollywood production of it, and enjoyed Clueless but I just have yet to be able to read it.
Prehaps when I more 'grown up'.
I love historical romances set in the regency period. There is something so romantic about men and women managing to fall in love in the world so structured and rigid compared to the emotions of love and passion.
Although I do love, more than all the others, the stories where it is a marriage of convience and they fall inlove anyway.
*sigh*

Welcome, Alinta. It is great to have you join us. I agree with you totally about Emma, I was pained the entire reading of it. She is sooooo unpleasant. Though the last chapters were very nice I am not sure it was worth the anger.

Welcome! I agree with you about the romantic aspect of two people falling in love in such a rigid world. But rigid or not, I would trade today for that time period any day!
