Hello fellow Regency enthusiasts!
I am co-founder of the Arizona Regency Society. I adore the elegance of the Regency period.
Here is the story of my introduction to the regency period:
I received a DVD player and Emma (2) DVD for my birthday in 2000. After watching Emma, I became thoroughly enchanted. I searched on line and discovered that Jane Austen had written Emma. Unfortunately I was never exposed to Jane in all my years of school. In college I studied science, but I am not as forgiving to elementary and high school educators. I joined the Jane Austen Society of America in AZ eventually becoming their treasurer.
I've given myself up to the beauty of the era. I learned to sew, as I could never find what I needed. My first project was a chemise. Next, a corset. When that came out too long, another. I made my 1st regency gown for a ball, sans pattern, from a website that demonstrated the construction of a drop-front dress.
At one of the meetings, I was in costume and a nice gentleman said to me " I've never seen an American sit up so straight!".
My poor dear husband has dressed in costume repeatedly. He's accompanied me to dances here, the Pasadena, CA Jane Austen ball and the Oregon Regency Society ball in November 2007.
I am happy that Stephanie has brought us all together as kindred spirits longing for the formality, simplicity and beauty of the regency era. Thank you Steph!

Aww... You're so sweet. You're welcome. I am just so selfishly happy that there are others like me out there.

Welcome, Lady Caroline!
Lady Egg and I have been to the Pasadena Jane Austen tea/ball twice now, and we're very sad we were not able to make it last year, and won't make it this year.

Greetings Caroline. The more the merrier. I'm sure you, like all of us, are in heaven over The Complete Jane Austen, going on at PBS right now. Val
