Good day to you all! I am glad to have found this lovely corner of the internet. My name is Miss Credit, and I like most everyone here, am obsessed with the Regency era. After having read my first Jane Austen novel in high school I immediately fell in love with the era. During this time I was involved with historical reenacting of pioneer life in the Ohio territory but after extensively researching the era and devouring every bit of information I found I decided to switch gears and try my hand at portraying the period I have come to love so much. This year will be my first year portraying this era, having recently joined a War of 1812 group. I am hoping to make some new friends here and share my knowledge of the era as well as learn some new things from everyone else.

Have you been or do you go to Fort Meigs?

Welcome Miss Credit. I am always glad to see the war reenactors appear here. I'm hoping some Napoleonites will come too sometime soon; just to complete the group. ::grin::
We hope you'll find it as wonderful a forum as we do, and we're always up for photos of events, costumes etc.
Thanks for signing up!

Welcome Dear Lady, I too am involved in 1812. Undoubtedly we'll cross paths sometime. Have you been or do you go to Fort Meigs? Thank you Sir, Indeed I have been to Ft. Meigs, it being only an hour from my home I find it is a most convenient location for events. Actually I shall be taking part in the War of 1812 Clothing Conference being held in April at the fort, as a model for the historical fashion show. The conference is an event I daresay should not be missed. I must ask, whereabouts are you located?

Dear Miss Credit,
That's wonderful that you have Fort Meigs nearly in your back yard. I've only seen it briefly, but know it's a very nice site. (Which is weird because I've been to so many other forts further east, but just kind of skip over Meigs.) I wish I could attend their clothing conference, but alas, being the weekend after a Ball I'm hosting here it would be too much to handle.
I know of a number of people that also frequent Fort Meigs that if you don't know them yet, I'm sure you will soon. Don't worry, the folks of which I speak are good people. Their unit is the 19th U.S. Infantry. My unit and theirs usually camp together (intermingled?) at Mississinewa 1812 every year. They're a hoot!
Out here in the Great Plains (I'm in eastern Nebraska) there isn't much 1812. We have an 1820 fort (which is nice that the uniforms did not change from the war) that I volunteer at - Fort Atkinson. (Come to think about it, I think Dawn asked me about it and I forgot to get back to her - my apology madam.) There is Fort Osage near Kansas City, otherwise I travel east to do 1812. Which is yet another reason I like the Regency circles. Regency isn't as much geograhical and while there isn't much in my immediate area yet, it looks as though it could be growing. We'll see.
Do you plan to or do you already travel to 1812 events besides Fort Meigs?

Miss Credit, you’re going to LOVE the clothing conference! Betsy Bashore’s fashion show is one of the best 1812 clothing demonstrations I’ve ever been privileged to see. She’s awesome! This will be the first year in 3 that I won’t be able to attend. I’m still mourning the missed opportunity, although I’m sending friends with strict instructions to take lots of notes and take lots of photos. Ah Major, Nebraska! You are a long way off in the wilderness for 1812…

Do you plan to or do you already travel to 1812 events besides Fort Meigs? I see the 19th US Infantry is well known, I have been in contact with Betsy about getting involved with them and she has been ever so helpful but I still have yet to meet any of them formally. So far I've only been to a handful of 1812 events but none of them as a participant, seeing as I'm still building my wardrobe, but I am very eager to start camping again. I like that fact that 1812 allows for you to travel to places like Canada and New York, the group I also camp with only travels to events in Ohio, so this will be a nice change of scenery.

Dear Miss Credit,
You should like Betsy I think. She has tons of research and knowledge. In fact, the organization at our fort is bringing her here as the main speaker at our annual workshop.
Betsy and Rob travel to quite a few events throughout the year. If you are involved with the 19th, you will undoubtedly have opportunities to travel as well. Probably one event I would encourage you to attend, and I think Betsy is going to as well, is the Grand Tactical. This year it is at Jefferson Patterson Park near Baltimore. It is a pain in my neck due to all the logistical planning, but it promises to be a fantastic event with many venues and vignettes to participate in and simply have a fantastic time.
Again, welcome to the RSA forum. I hope we'll have many more conversations about the Regency / Federalist era.

Ah Major, Nebraska! You are a long way off in the wilderness for 1812… Yes indeed. Now you know why I long so much for polite society.
