Hi! I’m Caralee— Well, here’s what I probably have in common with everybody: I’ve read and re-read all the Jane Austen and most of the Georgette Heyer novels many, many (many) times. Then I read them again. And like everybody else here, no doubt, (NO doubt), at this point I can pretty much talk along with most of the movies, at least the older ones. And (of course) I’ve got this season’s Masterpiece Theatre schedule in my Outlook calendar. Gosh, what else? My cousin Rachel and I visited London a couple years ago and we hunted down every Austen/Heyer location we could think of (Grosvenor Square, Half-Moon Street, etc.). I’ve written a fake Georgette Heyer chapter, of course-- did my best, anyway. And I’ve thought about writing a Jane one. Um? I’m kind of a beginning sewer and I have no regency clothes at all, but I took loads of historical costume classes in college—in fact, I wound up minoring in theater because of it. I was an English major. And I’m way into dancing. And cooking. And the little daily details that made up historical reality. I like to know how people used to do things and what things used to look like. I’m hoping to get my cousin Rachel to join, so she might pop up here soon too. She lives in Portland too, and sews. Anyway, hi! It randomly occurred to me to search "Jane Austen Portland" the other day and I found you guys. Hooray!

Yes, hello! A friend of Georgette Heyer is a friend of mine!
And I have to say I am very, very jealous of you. Doing an Austen/Heyer tour is on the list for me, but I haven't gotten there yet! Sigh.... so lucky!

Hi Caralee,
Welcome. I hope you enjoy our polite society here. The people on this board are very very nice, polite, and they mind their manners. Everyone tends to share whatever information they have, so if a search of the site doesn't come up with your subject, you've only to ask your questions. The folks here are happy to help out. Welcome, again.

Hi Caralee! I hope you do join the ORS indeed! We're always happy for fresh faces, and I'm sure you'll enjoy the benefit of Cosmo's regency stays workshop and my bonnet workshop this coming April (in Brightwood/Welches). We're having a tea in Sherwood on March 30, there are still spots available... Check out the ORS events page (or check the posts here at 'What's going on near you'.... And sign up! We're a friendly bunch. Welcome to the RSA... we have a wonderful group of ladies, and even a couple of kind gentlemen.

Thank you for the welcome! I would love to go to the tea on the 30th (however, seems like my dentist appointment might be that same day. I scheduled it four months ago-- I'll find out!) and I'm excited about the bonnet workshop. Should I be wearing regency clothes? Because if so, mmm, don't have any yet, but I'll try to run something up as fast as possible. Anybody know a nice, easy, quick pattern for day wear?

No, for the bonnet workshop casual clothing is recommended; you're not going to want to sit around for five-six hours in costume I'd imagine, while hot-gluing stuff together.
LOL.

Welcome Caralee!
I'm pleased to make your acquaintance. I, too, am new here but I think you will find everyone friendly and helpful.
I've never posted on a message board either, so I've been a little hesitant. I'll have to muster my bravery and join you in the quest for Regency knowledge!
