1.What fabrics do you like to use? Coutil, Sateen, Linen, Cotton Twill, Canvas, Denim? Where do you put each one? Cover, Interlining, lining?
I have only worked on two: the first one, Regency, had all materials supplied by the teacher. So the fabric was coutil. It only has a cover and lining.
The second, my Georgian/Colonial, is a powder blue silk dupioni, with a light twill sewn to it to support it, and coutil on the inside.
What boning do you like to keep on hand? What kind of busks?
I have quite a few sizes of boning already because I've used them in the bodices of gowns I've made. Most are about 6" to 9", I'm short-waisted, and then I have the spirals for the back of the bodice.
What kind of cord do you like to use? Hemp, Cotton, Linen?
What kind of tape do you use for lacing? Round or flat, cotton or linen?
Both look like shoelaces. The Regency came with round stuff, the other I bought the flat stuff. Looks like cotton.
What do you like to use for binding your edges? Premade bias tabe or to you make your own? Do you use twill tape?
Pre-made bias tape, purchased from Farthingales LA up in Los Angeles
www.farthingalesla.com/ I just ordered a box of 00 grommets to do my new corset with.
Do you use pre-made eyelet strips/piecing for fitting?
Huh?
What tools do you use? Do you use a home pro grommet setter? Special wire cutters? A special awl or stilletto? A special curved uhpulstery needle?
One of our guild members owns a large tabletop grommet setter, so she makes the rounds of our sewing groups with it, or brings it to our meetings. She brings her awl also. We provide the grommets. Our guild has a lot of Ren people, so it gets a lot of use. I'd love to buy/find one, but I DON'T NEED ONE MORE THING IN MY SEWING ROOM.
Is there anything else that you use to make your corsets?
I like the pretty lace edge on the top of the corsets, like my Victorian ones (purchased). Trying to decide if the Georgian one should have lace, although I haven't seen any. Heck, why not? I like some of the pretty embroidery that's been done on later corsets and just recently noticed that Regencys had quilting and embroidery on them but not color.
