How do you sew and finish your gussets in your stays? After an irritating evening of gussets in my mock up I ended up combining the method in my pattern and the Hunisett method. I would love to hear how others do theirs before I cut and sew my actual fabric.

The only way I can describe how I do gussets is to draw it. I sew on both long sides of hte gusset after I've snipped a little tab at the bottom of the gussett slit. I then turn it over, fold the little tab under and then sew it from the good side; sometimes I'll do a tight zig-zag stitch all around the gusset, sometimes I'll 'stitch in the ditch', it depends on my mood.

Pretty close to how I do it too. I machine sew the long sides and then tuck the little triangle tab in at the bottom. If it's a single layer garment, I cover the inside seam allowance with a ribbon, baste, then flip to the outside and machine embroider the ribbon over the raw edges of the seam alowance. I hand sew the very bottom of the gussets and maybe do a decorative embroidered scallop on the outside.

Dawn - Do you think that you could post a close up image of how that looks from both sides when complete?
