I am curious about how long the gussets on your stays are? I feel like the gussets on the pattern are too short for me. I am not sure where/how it is supposed to fit. Is it supposed to be like a bra where it goes from the crease over the nipple. Or is supposed to be under the nipple. Should I measure the distance from my nipple to the crease and make the gusset about that long?

I am pretty sure it's supposed to cover your nipple.

First, remember that the look is a very high bust. You're going to have to "lift" yourself into the gusseted area once your stays are made. Second the top of the stays should be at "bust point" - not very much over it. If you make longer gussets and deeper slashes, you're going to end up with a late 1820's-1830's silhouette.

Don't forget that your chemise is part of the equation. As you tighten your stays you will need to tug down the chemise underneath to smooth things out. The top of the chemise contains the upper part of your breast while the stays provide lift from below.
