I am totally confused how the back of the corset is supposed to be finished? I have read the directions over and over and I don't see how it is to be done? Am I supposed to turn it inside out and stitch it and then make it right side out?
I noticed that Dawn's doesn't look like that at all. It is really neat and not bulky on the edge at all.

Can you take a picture of your conundrum? I'm not quite picturing what the problem is.

Cosmo are you talking about the stays panel that has the eyelets in it? Is your corset single or double layer?
If it's double layer, you simply sew lining layer to outer layer at the center back seams. If it's a single layer, I usually make a facing/lining for just that panel and do the same: sew them together at the centre back seams. You have to have a boning channel on either side of your eyelets anyway and having a double layer there makes the boning channels really easy to make.

Cosmo, I just went thru this with my 1780s stays. Mine laces in the front and the back, and doesn't have a bone on the outside edge of the grommets. I first finished the edge with bias tape. I sewed one side on the fashion fabric, then turned it over to the inside and slipstitched it onto the lining. But I was told normally it wouldn't have bias tape on the sides, and have been just turned under and finished. Since I've had to open it up to make it smaller, now I'm doing the turned under technique. I'm going to turn the edges inside towards each other and slipstitch it shut.

Thanks ladies. After looking at every possible place I could think of to look for the answer I found Val's suggested method on Katherines' dress site. That is the one I am attempting.

Ooh, I just got an email from Deb the Mantua Maker with her description of how to do it. I am going to post it on the Pattern Review.
