I completed the cap last night. I just need to add the lovely copper ribbon-ties and bows and this project will be complete. I'll steal the camera so I can take the 'finished project' photos.

I made the cap... I have yet to attach the ribbons they're just draped on it right now, but you can see they coordinate nicely with the 'eye' of the peacock feather and the brown feathers in the 'medallion'.

You have inspired me. I'm taking a whack at Lady CdB's stovepipe. I'll have to fit her in between orders but we shall see. Thanks for the idea.

My newest 'stovepipe' creation for my friend Tara can be seen in this set of pictures (the last six or so images). www.flickr.com/photos/herodyssey/sets/72157604688482473/She likes black and red. So I made the bonnet black and the reticule from the same fabric. It turned out pretty well. It was a challenge this time, and I'm speaking kindly. This bonnet fought me all the way. I'm not entirely pleased with the angle of the brim, but hopefully she'll like it; if not... to etsy or ebay it goes.

Steph, once again, you’ve outdone yourself! This new black and red bonnet is lovely. I love the pleating around the crown. I can imagine how complicated it must have been! What is the black fabric? It’s beautiful! And the feathers are just wonderful!
Thanks again for sharing! Your friend is a lucky lady!

Thanks Dawn! The black fabric is the only really decent pattern/colour I could find, so it's a home-dec fabric, likely synthetic. I was given very basic instructions from a timid Tara who was likely afraid to be pushy thinking this was some great task for me: "Black bonnet and red embellishments... with some silver.. NO GOLD!" So I had my orders. I searched for a tone-on-tone pattern, preferably woven, lightish fabric in black as requested. I found a tone-on tone woven fabric but it is far from light. It was heavy fabric and not easy to work with on the hat (tho swimmingly easy to sew for the reticule). The pleating isn't really that complicated. I just pleated as I glued around the top, pulled the bottom edge down and affixed, and then put two bands around it... top and bottom. the fabric was so thick it was puffy 'round the middle, so I added a band around the girth of the stovepipe, and it turned out quite nicely. I get picked on for being the glue-queen, but it works so well and I turned that bonnet out in two evenings. the thickness of the fabric caused issues with the affixing of the brim. It's not bad, I guess. Tara loves it, and that's all that really matters. She's so great, I'm always happy to do things for her. I always require projects to keep me from shriveling up into a depressed fetal ball, so having friends to do stuff for is always a plus.

Steph, you're amazing that you're putting these together so quickly and so well! That one is just gorgeous! I love the pleating too.

She's so great, I'm always happy to do things for her. When you speak of her in this way is it any wonder I am moving away? I cannot stand not being your regency favourite. If she is so great then you clearly don't need me.

I can surely retaliate by stating that I simply *had* to put all my eggs in *another* basket because you have decided to abandon us all. ::weeping dramatically:: Besides, you wouldn't be content with a glued hat, you'd need it to be hand-stitched with period-correct materials anyway. Tee hee! By the way... You haven't shared your moving plans yet. How long are you going to be around for?

On the first point, You didn't know I know I was moving at the February party when it became clear to me that I had been usurped On the Second Point, you're correct about the period correct material, but I could accept machine stitching. On the third point, I am not sure the apartment where I am supposed to be moving isn't finished yet. It looks like I will be moving the first weekend in June though, but it may be later. I would encourage you to come over this weekend and corset with me if you could be lured down from your mountain. My Hubby is working and I'll be desperate for adult conversation.

LOL.. Saturday I'm with Grandma for her shopping and haircut day. Friday night, after work, I'm off to. ...ahem... 'a friend's' husband's b-day where i will be imbibing some wine and handing off said bonnet to its new owner. Sunday I'm staying home. I have bonnets to make for the Eugene ball. I'm going to try my hand at making a little girl's bonnet. I have white eyelet cotton for the capote and really cute pink ribbon and pink flowers and a mini straw bonnet. I'd like to do the corsety thing... but I may be too late when I have a weekend to do it. The following weekend is the Eugene party... I'll be down there at least overnight... Dan may be in Minnesota at a wind-farm that weekend too... not sure yet. That leaves the weekend of May 30... that could be a possibility.
