I have ordered a pair of cloth half-boots from New York Dance. They are the Sansha canvas, they came in grey and I think they will do fine for the dress I have. In the meantime, I found a pair of brown leather half-boots at Goodwill that may work with another dress I'm eyeing (this is completely addictive by the way!). My question for you good ladies (or gentlemen) is in regard to the heel of my cheapy boots. I found Regency shoes on Jessamyn's image pages with a similar heel, but I've never seen a half-boot with this heel. I planned to get them re-heeled, but I'm not sure if they will be able to bring the height down to where I want it. I'm not sure my $2 boots are worth the effort. Here is a link to the image: i275.photobucket.com/albums/jj289/Contessa_021/Regency/compressedhalf-boot.jpgSuggestions? Thoughts?

I don't think that it would be very practical to try to have that heel taken down. I don't think that the shaped vamp would lend itself easily to being flat. Even the heeled shoes on Jessamyn's page are basically flat.

Do you have a photo of the boots you ordered?

WOW, both of those seem like great prices to me! Tess, as a thrift store JUNKIE, I like your $2 find! Just save them for if you ever get the yen to dress in another period!

Cosmo, once again you've found a treasure! The prices on these are so good, they would be worth buying a couple pairs. I may be ordering the pink/peach ones soon. They're very sweet looking. Too bad they're not meant for outdoors, because the majority of times I've worn my Regency, I've been walking thru parking lots or grassy areas.

I may get a pair of the leather ones, I'm not sure if "dark colours" means brown or what. I have a pair of brown leather paddock boots I'll probably use for Sunday; accurate, no, but close enough I suppose.

You'll have to excuse my manners. I asked a question, then disappeared for a few days!
I haven't placed the order on the boots yet but, those are the cloth boots I am talking about. Jessamyn had a link from her site, but the supplier only had black (and white by special order). She suggested there that you have them resoled for better wear. I found another supplier and am planning to order the grey pair (my dress has gray and steel blue detail). I'll let you know what the cobbler says re: adding a leather sole.
I was planning on calling about the "dark colors" in the leather. The Sansha website says the leather comes in black, brown, green, and red. Since the New York Dance site only shows the swatch in brown, I would think that is the color they stock (but better safe than sorry!).
NY Dance has a minimum $40 order, and I'm not sure if I really want two pair right now. I've also found some very promising items on Ebay, but I hesitate to fill my closet with shoes when I have only one dress!
Decisions, decisions!

I just posted about the nydance half boots, and one of our guild members told me this: "I purchased these shoes several years ago. I have them in red and have worn them many times for dancing. The canvas top has held up quite well. I added an insole to provide more padding." I think after our vacation, and I've caught up to my bills, I'm going to get a pair, probably the pink/peach color, then later black. These are so cheap, I can probably buy even more later if needed.

Thanks Val!
That makes me feel much better about the choice. I found another supplier (from Sansha main site) who doesn't appear to require a minimum purchase.
I'm ordering the grey pair today. I'll let you all know if I end up getting them resoled for outside wear.

I'd better go back and check. **Edited to add: $40 minimum order, so that's 2 pairs of boots. Guess I'll be ordering both pair at the same time. Thanks for mentioning that.

Dance Express is the other supplier, but I was wrong and they require a $40 minimum order as well.
I called about the leather version in "dark colors" and they said that they have blue, green, brown. They said there is no guarantee if they would have my preferred color in my size, but that I could request it in the "comments" section and state that I didn't want it if they didn't have brown.
Also, dance express was about $5 cheaper per pair. Unfortunately they only had my grey pair in 9Narrow.
Since they both have minimum orders, I'm still hemmin' and hawin' about what to do.
I wish I could find a supplier in town that has them, but so far no luck. ARGLE FARGLE!

MY BOOTS ARE IN!! I love getting new goodies in the mail. It's like my birthday, only more frequent! So, I ordered the leather boots in brown. They called and didn't have them so they offered me a pair of dark grey and dark green for $10 each-What A Deal! I also ordered a pair in black. I had called a retail store that carries them in NY to check on sizing and they recommended I order a 10 (I wear a 8.5 street size). I'm really glad I did, as they fit perfectly. Here are pics: The black and dark green pair- The grey pair- What do you think I should replace the laces with?

Please let us know if they can be resoled and if so, what the shoemaker charges. They really are precious!

They feel really good to me. They are made for dancing, so I think they will be pretty sturdy. I'm taking the black pair to the cobbler today to see about resoling.
I'm tempted to leave them as is, since they are really comfy and I will be wearing them inside most of the time.

Very nice find you lucky cow wearer's. They did have the exact same boot in canvas. It has the leather patches on the sole, but those could be removed and replaced with a synthetic sole (unless purchasing the cow in the first place is a no-go). I did take the leather boots to the cobbler. He said he could add a leather sole to the front, leaving the heel in place as is. He wanted $32 to do it. I decided that since I'll be wearing them inside mostly and they are so comfy to me now, I'll wait until they start to wear on the edges before I add the sole. They do have suede patches under the toe and ball of the foot, as well as a "real" heel. Who knows....I have a pair of suede leather moccasins that I've had for 15+years and the suede soles have worn to a slick tough sole. I know the boot kid-leather is not the same, but I'll bet they will make it awhile before it is a problem.
