What is everyone working on right now costume wise? I know that I have mentioned that I am looking to make a white evening gown for the ORS event in February. ORS ladies what are you planning for the February party? Everyone that is not in the ORS do you have an event coming up that are making something for? Are you just making something to have just in case? Do share.

I think I"m going to make a net pelisse for my white day dress. Not sure yet.

For some vague definition of working on, I'm part way into an ankle-length greatcoat with shoulder capes, but it, like most of my sewing, has been stalled out since the baby arrived. I'm hoping that reading this forum inspires me enough to get back on the job....

I know what you mean and my DD is 18 months old. I only just last week actually placed an order for my patterns because I know that at the rate I am working I will not have enough time to do my mock ups and fit them by February if I draft them/scale them up from a book.

Chris - How is that greatcoat coming along? How is that frock for Master Teo? Have any progress photos to share?

Chris hasn't done any sewing, but we went fabric shopping yesterday at Thai Silks. (We're close enough to actually go fondle the wares, but they do excellent mail order business. www.thaisilks.com/) They are having a sale, but most of the yardage we bought was full regular price. I bought some light pink silk to make an underdress to go with this: goblinrevolution.org/cgi-bin/pic_frame.cgi?pic=cyprians-2006-03.jpg;list=indicies/cyprians2006.index;base=costumesWe also bought some remnants for half off. Good deal! I've recently scaled up the pattern dawnluckham reviewed here for the regency "bra" undergarment. I've washed some lovely soft "natural" colored canvas and am hoping to get the pieces cut, if not before we leave for vacation, then I'll bring scissors and do it while on vacation (with free grandparental babysitting- WOO HOO!) I'm hoping to get this done before our next event which will either be the Jane Austen day in Pasadena in January, or BAERS' Cyprians' Ball in February.

CosmoBlue made me do it, but here's the beginning of a dress diary for my greatcoat: goblinrevolution.org/costumes/greatcoat/I haven't actually done work on it for over a year, and I worked on HTML tonight instead of working on it! (Although I can type while baby naps, while I can't run the sewing machine, so I have some excuse.)

I don't know if I can accept that charge, but it looks pretty good. Is that an Ikea stacking lighthouse/tower holding your pocket flap open?

Is that an Ikea stacking lighthouse/tower holding your pocket flap open? Very perceptive of you; it is. With a toddler in the house, the first thing at hand is often a toy. As a bonus, you can tell that the colors are a bit off by matching the colors of the lighthouse.

I'm working on trying to get a better sewing machine that does buttonholes. :::grin:::

I am taking on quite a task w/my deadline being 2/9/08. I am making a dress, spencer, bonnet, reticule, short stay, chemisette, chemise and drawers. I am also making a muff as it will be cold. So far I have most cut and the chemisette & drawers almost complete. I have yet to start the dress as I haven't found fabric I like. If any of you have any good fabric sources, please let me know. I believe there is a forum topic for fabric. I will also look there.

In the span of a month and a half I did two dresses (one with a full overdress, two tailcoats, two waistcoats, a pelisse, drop-front pants, a shirt, and a cravat. So it's not impossible, but definitely stressful! The gowns are pretty easy really.

Wow! I thought I had a lot! I agree, the dress will be pretty easy. All of the pieces are fairly easy, there's just so many. Oh well, I am up to the challenge especially since I have 2 pieces nearly finished. That gives me motivation. At least I have everything cut. That takes a lot of stress off.

Once the bodice is done, it's free sailing. ::smirk:: Although I was looking at the pattern from Period Impressions for the drop-front day-dress and *that* is daunting. I'm going to make a new stay (I think) -- I'm going to modify the S&S one to look like this one: Plus make a net over dress/pelisse for my white day-dress. I'm also thinking about doing a bonnet for the heck of it (or at least a cap for the Feb. Party). Oh, yes and I was contemplating doing some cotton pantaloons (not period, but at least warm).

I like that very much. My stay is the one from Simplicity/Sense & Sensibility designs. It will be the first one for me. We'll see how it turns out. I'm making my pantalettes out of flannel for warmth. Sometimes, the rules need to be bent a little! Thanks for posting the pic!

I have nothing done and I am going to be sweating that last week. My goal is to have everything cut by the 26th and then one week to sew and one to finish. I am machine sewing mostly everything.

I am maching sewing everything too. I loathe hand sewing and I'm not very good at it anyway. So my projects will have a little bit of a modern edge. I'm still satisfied w/how everthing is turning out. I hope you make your deadline and everything looks great!
