I found this site and I am so excited. I have been re-enacting the War of 1812 (Battle of New Orleans - January 8, 1815) since 1990. We do this at the Chalmette Battlefield (outside of New Orleans).
After losing my home (and all Living History items) in Hurricane Katrina (August, 2005) I was able to attend the 2007 Battle of New Orleans event thanks to a friend loaning me some clothing.
Enjoy the Regency/War of 1812 era very much. Look forward to chatting with others.
Kathy1815 is a friend of mine - we have both "done" the Battle of New Orleans for many years.

Bienvenue, Madame Dufour,
We are pleased to welcome you to the fold here at the RSA. I'm sorry to hear that you were among the many who suffered the wrath of Katrina, I do hope you are now soundly back on your feet and able to pursue the things that you enjoy.
We are happy to have you. I look foward to all the lovely things you will share with us.

Dear Madame Dufour,
Welcome to our polite society. I too am a War of 1812 reenactor, and have been for...ahem...a number of years. While I have not attended the Battle of New Orleans (my unit was not originally there, so it would be awkward for us), I have a number of personal friends to attend regularly. The American Commander is also my CO.
I too hope you are recovered, or well along your way to recovery from Katrina.
We all look forward to sharing information and polite conversation with you.

My dear Major:
Thank you most sincerely for your kind welcome. I am well on the way to recovery from the hurricane, having had my home demolished (14 feet of water sitting in it for three weeks does a great deal of damage) and have purchased and moved to a town house on the western side of New Orleans suburbs.
Unfortunately the Chalmette Battlefield sustained a great deal of damage. The Visitor Center was wiped off the face of the earth, and the Beauregard-Maulas House had water in it. Interesting enough, that building (built in the 1840's) was still standing. Obviously the old saying "They don't build them they way they used to" is correct.
You are a friend of Steve Abolt? Steve is a great re-enactor, always enjoy seeing him at Chalmette. My favorite thing at any event is doing "First Person", and Steve can always go right along with any thread of conversation.
Everyone is looking forward to the 200th Anniversary of the Battle of New Orleans (January 8, 2015).
Yours truly, Madame Dufour

Welcome Madame Dufour to our little group. It is lovely to have another 1812 person to learn from.

Yes, dear lady, Col. Abolt is my friend and Commanding Officer. There is not a finer officer or gentleman.
I am so glad to hear that you are well on your way to recovery from Katrina.
I may also attend the 200th Anniversary of the Battle of New Orleans, even it means wearing a uniform of another regiment to do so. I am also looking forward to several of the bicentennial events that are on the horizon.

Welcome to our group, Madame Dufour. We've been sharing a lot of our research and costume construction with each other here, and finding where to go in them. Lots of fun! I'm sorry to hear you lost everything. That must be so sad. We had to decide what to take with us last Oct during an evacution from the fires here in San Diego County, and the last things I was taking were some of my costumes, and patterns. Fabric if still time. The evac got cancelled a half hour later but it's interesting what you decide is most important to you.
