I made a bonnet for a little girl; it's smaller, with a shallower brim. I also couldn't resist and made it with white eyelet cotton and PINK flowers and ribbons. It's so... girly. The brim inside is also lined in gathered white cotton, so cute. Then there's the next bonnet, which didn't please me quite as much, in fact.... I don't like it. The brim is too wide at the sides... it looks... heavy. But here it is nonetheless: I may loosen the sides and then pull the capote more over the bottom sides fo the brim; that will raise the crown quite a bit--I may possibly remove a course or two of the brim to make it shallower... We'll see if that works without damaging the flowers. Anyway; one is going to the raffle on Saturday... the little girl's one may be 1) a gift to a friend or 2) a product for my etsy shop.

Love, love, love the white eyelet! The pink ribbon is too cute, especially with that pattern on it.
I had to laugh at your "big bonnet" quandary. I have tried mine on 20 times and debated if I should take it apart and rework the brim. It just feels too big/too wide/too something...
I can't bring myself to rip into it at the moment. Let me know how yours comes out if you attack it.

Thanks. I think it's going to be a gift to Thea's little girl Talia. She'll get it Saturday when I go down to Eugene.

It not only changed the shape fo the bonnet but also the fit. It looks so much better just from that small modification. I recall that being an issue with both of my other soft-pokes, I'd just... forgotten I guess. It was never an issue with the little bonnet for some reason, I just did it automatically; and probably because it didn't fit my head form and I had to do it without a model to influence me for the worse.

I love the white eyelet one too! That would be perfect for my white gown.

Steph, those little sketches tell a lot! Thanks for sharing them!
The bonnets are sweet and you’ve done a really nice job of ‘catching’ the correct shape. I love your eye for the decorations as well.
Very, very pretty.

Val, I'm sorry to say I sized it small, it wouldn't fit you I'm afraid. ::tee hee:: It doesn't look small in the picture but it is. I'll try to get pics of it with Thea's little girl modeling it this weekend.

Dawn:
Without that tiny adjustment, I get more 'prairie' and less 'regency' looking at it. I really hate those 'blinder' like bonnets that cover the entire face unless you're looking right at the lady. Now the form's chin and lower face is visible and the crown is nice and high to accomodate the bun of hair.
I know they're not entirely ....regency... in decoration, but I'm making them for raffle, and the ladies like the decorated ones a lot. Most of them don't really care if it's totally period or not, they just want a pretty bonnet that goes with their day dress.
