I was going to add a new comment to the "weekend?" thread but decided to do a more general one, especially since "weekends" can cover a varieity of days/holidays.
Now that I'm past the Civil War demo I was involved in yesterday at the middle school, I can now focus back on my Regency gown(s) for Costume College.
Progress report:
Still no photos of me in my corset. Hubby couldn't manage threading the eyelets, so I'm waiting for any friend that can help with that. Therefore, no fitting of the muslin for my gown.
Instead, I started the open robe portion of it. I'm using the robe portion of Butterick BP191 (out of print www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=10444005 ) , and it fit perfectly the first time. I'm making two of them; the pink w/ silver fern *upholstery" fabric for my Pretty Princess gown, and a periwinkle blue (looks like dupioni silk but slubby/inexpensive) for my ball gown. The gown will be white, and can be worn with both robes. I picked up a pretty white lace the other day to go around the neckline of the pink one, and hopefully it stands up nicely. I haven't decided on one for the periwinkle blue one. I'm going up to the Garment District with friends next Saturday and hope to find something there. Choices around here are pretty pitiful. I'm extending the front the make it's own "belt" instead of just wrapping one around me, so it looks like paintings that gave me the idea.
Both are going to have some kind of trim going down the robe like in the picture. Our Yardage Towns are having a 1/2 price sale on Memorial Day so I'm going to check there also.
With the same Reconstructing History Regency day dress pattern, I'm hoping to make a white cotton voile dress. If I'm able to get 2 more yards of the white voile with blue embroidered flowers in the Garment District, that will also become a day dress.
Inbetween all this, I'm also working on my Steampunk costume, a cross btn Victorian, SciFi, and modern. It has a black bustle skirt, white pinstriped modern shirt, and burnt orange vest (if all is finished).
And you wondered why I don't get much done?
I have 9 weeks left to do all this before Costume College, on top of going to visit Mom in Washington for two weeks. If I have handwork or hemming, I'll bring that with me. Heck, I might even get Mom to help with a sewing marathon there.
I work well under pressure when I know it HAS to be done, and no more procrastinating.
