I just bought two new machines on Wednesday. (!!!) I got a very nice deal from a very nice lady on Craigslist. The one I was originally planning on is a treadle head, Singer model 27, vibrating shuttle, made in 1898. It's got the Memphis Sphinx decals. The ones on the bed are pretty trashed, but the bigger ones on the arm are nearly fine! It's my first treadle. I have to get a treadle base to go with it, but hopefully I'll finish tracking down soon. I'm going to start working on it soon, I hope. It needs a lot of degreasing, but no parts.
The other one is a Singer model 128 vibrating shuttle, which were three-quarter sized machines with (I am told) the same mechanism as the 27s. It's electrified, and came in a cabinet (the cabinet is missing its lid, but that's fine - I can replace it if I need to). It was made in 1941, and it's a beautiful black "crinkle" finish. It needs a needle plate, and a belt, and when I got it she didn't know where she'd put the shuttle and bobbins, but she called a few hours later to say she'd found them and would put them in the mail. They should arrive right quick-like. That machine needs less work, other than the missing parts.
Here's a picture of the Memphis Sphinx - my decals aren't this good, sadly - www.treadleandcrank.com/images/01VS328-1a.jpg
And here's a picture of the 128, very similar to mine. I'll post real pictures of them when they are all cleaned up. home.cfl.rr.com/featherweight/128crnblk.htm
