O.K., next research question about the Inn/Resort...
I love children and have two of them myself, but do you think it would limit the business to have an age limit of, say, 10?
I am concerned that younger children will be a bit more destructive (I should know, I have a 6 and a 3 year old) and simply won't enjoy the experience...I want to have many delicate antiques around - and though I think older children could be entertained by the dancing, games, etc., I think younger children would get bored very quickly.
Your thoughts/opinions?

I'm not sure, since I don't have kids... but how about having a "nursery" or school room, where there would be toys and art supplies, and maybe even an on-staff nanny to take care of the children and teach them games and such. It could be their sanctuary where they don't have to worry about destroying anything, and they can still be a part of the situation. I do agree that it's a tricky position for kids to get bored. I know as a single person, it was would be REALLY annoying to be around a little brat who didn't want to be there in the first place. (Well behaved chilren are a joy and darling, and I love them.) However, I think young girls would LOVE playing dress up and living in a life sized doll house. I LIVED to visit the mansion in Dekalb, Illinois -- there was a massive playhouse (though you couldn't touch anything). It was gorgeous, like a mini-mansion, with dishes and lovely tables and EVERYTHING. I lived in Dekalb from 5 - 9, and I was a good little girl. I personally would have been hopping mad if my mom left me behind. It all depends on how upscale you're going. Boys would love it if there were places to muck about, especially if there's the stable, and cool older guys they can look up to and supervise....Apparently, male nannies are very in vogue these days for that very reason.

I think kids should be allowed. It would be a great learning experience to get them excited about history. Plus, I love hanging out with them. It never fails, when we go to a party, I hang out with the kids. I always find them to be great conversationalists! I just love children.

I can understand how you would believe children would be bored at such a place but after my experiences reenacting with 2 children in our unit ages 4 and 2 I have found that they really enjoy it as much as we do. Morgan the 4 year old loves to help the women with the cooking and loves to romp around in the grass and is entranced by animals. She also has a good grasp on the dancing and at the last assembly danced a couple with us. Nate the 2 year old loves just running and playing. I believe that if you have plenty of grass for them to run they will be happy. Perhaps have a nanny or kind of day school thing where the parents can go off and relax for a bit while the children will be watched over. Teach them period games like the game of graces, or walking on stilts. If you would be able to have a garden or farm I find that children are naturally drawn to animals and bugs. I think a place like this would allow you to teach children the simple pleasures of say rolling down a hill instead of playing with their video games.
