I thought I might ask where a good place to purchase silk would be. Preferably silk that doesn't cost and arm and a leg per yard ;-)

If you like dying, Dharma Trading Co. (http://www.dharmatrading.com/) has quite inexpensive white and black silk (and other fabrics), and a wide selection of dyes. It's not always cheep, but in the silk department it usually is.
You can also use Fashion Fabrics Club (fashionfabricsclub.com - I think). The problem with them is you can't usually tell very well what the weight is, so I've been surprised a few times. Never very badly, but I could see it being upsetting.

I never thought of getting silk from Dharma. I've considered muslin... Good tip.
Also... Mill End in Milwaukie has a nice selection. If you go, let me know.

No more expensive, maybe even less so than Fabric Depot. You can't beat Joanne's for muslins, but for notions and fabric, Mill End is easier on the wallet than Fabric Depot. Even with the 40% off.

:::nodding::: I told you so. It's a whole 2 minutes from my office, so it's very tempting to spend my lunch hour there.

Oh, you lucky woman. It's alright, though. I'm not so far away as all that, and the temptation would be far too much.

Thai Silks ( www.thaisilks.com/) has a good selection at pretty reasonable prices. (They're also local to me, which doesn't help my pocketbook.)
