Are you enjoying yourselves? What did you do (or what are you doing?) I stayed home.... My area gets overrun by tourists on holidays, so it's best to stay off the roads.

I'm recovering from a summer cold, cleaning house and starting on a new cloak. Sooooo not exciting for a holiday weekend!

We didn't do much ON Labor Day, except bbq some marinated shrimp. But on Sat we took a drive out on an old highway thru the back country of San Diego and into the high desert. We stopped at the Southern Pacific Railway Museum, and found it so interesting we're going to go back and take a ride on the scenic train. Then we drove to our destination, the Desert View Tower, which is at the highest peak in the high desert. We literally could see for miles across the Mojave Desert. It was 84d but with the low humidity and high winds, it felt wonderful. Not like at home where the humidity was so high you melted. On Labor Day I spent laboring: I cut out two bodices for 1770s gowns. The stays are almost done for them, just waiting for my order of boning to come in so I can finish it up. One gown is going to be a reproduction of a gown from a portrait of Lady Spencer, the mother of the Duchess of Devonshire, who they're currently making a movie about, The Duchess. Not much Regency going on at the moment. And getting ready to leave next Monday for another trip up to WA to continue painting Mom's house.

We had a great goodbye dinner with a reenacting couple that are moving to Erie, PA this week. It was really sad to see them move but at least they still plan to continue going to events. Sunday I enjoyed the day off but on Labor Day itself I had to work, but afterwards was able to finish up a ballgown for my rag doll and a new reticule.
