I am still in the process of replacing my War of 1812 gowns lost in Hurricane Katrina. Found a fabic at the Farmhouse Fabrics website. It is Silk Batiste in a lovely shade of Sage Green. Would this be suitable for a Regency Ballgown. Thought about trimming it with some Ercu colored lace. Tried to post the website address, but alas, I am too much in the 19th century. Thanking you in advance,

Silk batiste sounds like a perfect fabric for a Regency gown but I'm not sure about ecru lace. I know later in the century lace was either white or black the only off white lace I know of was silk 'blonde' lace, as it's very difficult to get silk really bright white like you can with cotton or linen. I was taught that for mid 19th century you should avoid any creamy coloured lace because to a period eye it would just look dirty or old which was seen as a bad thing. I can't say for sure about Regency era but I suspect you would be better off with a trim that is either white or brown not somewhere in between.
