Hi there, I'm Samantha (Sam), aka Lady Dedlock. Ive been reading the community board off and on for maybe a a year? (has it existed that long?), so I decided to finally participate, since I'm teaching myself to sew, and getting more and more into costuming and will have lots of questions, I'm sure.
I grew up reading historical romance novels -gasp!
(not the yucky ones - the ones with the great historical information that the authors actually put effort into researching) and I think that's where I began to love history, especially historical ways of life, and specifically fashion.
Then I found Jane Austen, not sure when, but loved the simplicity of the style and elegance of the times - so I began hunting for Austen-esque information on the internet, and ran into the RSA, and ORS. I recently took a class on bonnet making from Steph and didnt realize she basically began this whole deal - kudos to you grandmaster-mistress!
