ORS Eugene decided to schedule this event on the same day that JASNA's AGM ball will be occuring... oops! LOL. Anyway, Eugene is far enough away from Portland that we hope it will be okay. And yes, for those of you purists who despised the P&P&Zombies book... this might not appeal to you... but I am grateful for that book just becaues it broadened the readership of Jane's work. I think we should celebrate these ridiculous books with as much fun and quirkiness as possible.

This event is being moved to October 23 out of consideration for our JASNA friends.
I will modify the graphic and ORS calender accordingly

I haven't read P&P&Z, so I don't know the tone they're setting... how do you feel about alternate history (steampunk) costumes?
I really hate that I haven't been able to get back to a single blasted ORS event since the ball last year, and this one sounds like a lot of fun.

I think Regency centered steampunk may work wonderfully for this, but I would tend to stick to historical costumes for other outings such as balls and hunting parties.

Well, yes. But this is clearly outside the realm of strict historical reenactment.

What a fun event! I wish I could go!
Steph, when are you going to invade The South and open a Northern CA chapter of the ORS?

LOL... You're not the first to ask... I've been officially invited by various people to move to the following states to start a local version of the ORS:
Georgia (before Stephanie Coté was around) Massachusetts Vermont Virginia Florida Alaska <--seriously Colorado Idaho Louisiana Both Carolinas and now Northern CA...
My answer is... You don't need me. It's entirely doable by anyone who wants it badly enough. It's is a *lot* of work, I won't lie, and you have to have a high Drama tolerance, because once you start something like this, people will always know better, tell you better, and try to hijack your efforts for their own purposes. As long as it's fun though, it's worth it.
As for chapters... well, that's even easier... because you already have access to the existing organization-wide mailing list. But so FAR from the 'center' of our activities, the chapter leader would have to work a bit to get their own 'following' in their region. But it's not hard. Email me for details if you're interested.

I personally enjoyed P&P&Z, but a lot of purists are offended by it. I thought it was fun, and when I read it, I really needed a good laugh; it was a rough time. BUT, I could not get through the sea monsters one, it was ridiculous.. authors are treading a fine line that can create something amusing or something awful. P&P&Z managed to remain rather amusing for me... but I've no interest in the rest of the rehash books.
