I have never purchased from this vendor, nor heard of them until recently, but they have for sale the only gentlemen's Regency era shoe that I've seen. (There are a number of places that sell earlier, 1770's era shoes but I have never before seen one from the early 1800's) They also sell period shoes for children! www.burnleyandtrowbridge.com/shoes.aspx

I have a pair of the ladie's shoes, and I love them. The leather is so soft. I've met Angela Burnley a couple times. She came to Costume College last year. They're very well known to the East coast people, and I'd highly recommend them.

Burnley and Trowbridge's "Lady's 18th Century Walking Shoe" in Red has been on my wishlist for some time now, as I do 18th century reenactments. I think authentic Regency are a lot harder to find than shoes for the eras before and after Regency. I finally found some, and was so excited I nearly sommersaulted for joy - and my wishlist got bigger. Spencer's Mercantile carries walking shoes, boots (with period correct sewn lace holes - hurray!), and field shoes for women. For men they have a nice Regency pump (perfect for a ball!) as well as 1812 soldier's boots. They are all by Robert Land Historic Footware - here is the link: www.mrsmcleans.com/Shoes/Shoes%20Index.html

Those are really nice. (Even despite the strong Canadian dollar!)

Heee! Goblin, I guess you can't imagine the relief and reprieve we feel in Canada. Our government has been holding the Canadian dollar below the U.S. for so many years (to further trade of course! ) we little people have been overwhelmed by the strong American bill. I, for one, am so relieved that we are at least close to par. Take a look at the price on the back of any book in your library to get an idea of what the price difference for Canadian and U.S. purchases have been. The Robert Land shoes are lovely, lovely, lovely in person! And Spencer's Mercantile is one of the best out there!

I have the Robert Land Regency boots and they are very comfortable and pretty. The laces are too short so they have to be replaced - I use ribbon. Being that I work in historic costume and wear these boots with everything from Regency to 1830's I find they've not held up too well. I've had mine less than a year and the leather is beginning to fall apart. That said...I still love them and will buy another pair. I put more use on them than most folks would so perhaps I should get another pair so I can rotate and make them last longer. Also, the shoes can be ordered through Spencer Mercantile...it is very difficult to get them through Robert Land as I think he's quite backordered. Hope this helps anyone in the market for shoes
