I've been interested in costuming and the social customs of the eras for a long time. I love many costume eras and the Regency era is one of my favorites. My next sewing project is going to be a Regency day dress but I have to finish my 18th century stays and a polonaise gown first. I am also looking for places to wear these beautiful clothes, preferably closer to the Seattle, WA area.

Welcome Charlotte!
Keep looking around, you may be surprised to find others in your area who love this as much as you do! I posted my interest in the Regency on my Facebook page and was pleasantly surprised to find that many of my friends also had a love for the era. Now were working on costumes and places to wear them together. :-)
Kindly, ~Barbara

Thank you for the welcome, Lady Barbara! I have noticed that there are a number of PNWers around here. Do any of the 'locals' attend events north of Portland, OR? Sadly, none of my RL friends are interested in costuming or attending period costume events outside of the SCA or the Civil War era (I don't know why they are resistant to expanding into other eras), so I'm sort of on my own for anything else. So, here I am!

Charlotte,
I'm SCA as well (25+ years.) For the longest time I wished there was a Regency equivalent of the SCA in my area. The Regency is my first love! Then another SCAer and I got to talking and found we shared a mutual love of Jane Austen. We looked up our local Jane Austen Society. For the most part, they discuss the books and have occasional teas. Now, however, they are very keen to explore more into the Regency period. I've only been to two meetings and already I'm scheduled to teach a class on making and embroidering reticules!
I'm in the mid-west, so I can't be of much help to you there in Washington. Still, I wish you luck in finding like minded folks to play with! And we are here to give you encouragement, if only from afar!
With kind regards, ~Barbara

Hi Charlotte, There is a Puget Sound regency chapter; orspuget.blogspot.com/ They are pretty new, from my understanding. I'm sure they could use another excited member. Nice to meet another Charlotte on the boards Cheers, -Charlotte

Lady Barbara, Thanks for the good wishes. I've dabbled a bit in the SCA and more recently in the local Civil War group up here but I like the clothes form the 18th century, Regency, Victorian and Edwardian eras better. Artemisiajolie, I found the Puget Sound chapter of the Oregon group yesterday (woohoo!). I haven't made contact with the group yet. I'm not really a Charlotte but Charlotte is easier to pronounce and spell than my RL name and I think it's a pretty name.
