Hurrah!

I was very pleased with the costumes! The movie was too short. I liked the book so much I felt so sad. Watching some of the scenes made me dizzy with the weird camera angles.
I am glad that I waited to watch it in HD, with the story so shortened and it being so not HD I wouldn't have even been able to enjoy the full beauty of the costumes.

Just finished watching it. I thought it very superficial in the character developement but in 1 1/2 hrs, you can't do much I guess. I'm not familiar with all the characters, so I was very confused with all the people sometimes. I thought the constant closeups of people dizzying. And it frustrated me that I couldn't see more of the costumes. I did see a lot of the capotes, very nice ones too. No really fancy ones but that's fine. I'm a little prejudiced in favor of the one that Amanda Root & Ciaran Hinds was in. www.sonypictures.com/classics/persuasion/persuasion.html It's my favorite and I felt emotional watching it. If a movie can make me cry, I give it a higher rating. I didn't feel anything for this one. It was still enjoyable but not my favorite.

Anne Elliott is my favourite JA Character of all the women. I think this actress did alright with her; but I still like the prior version better.
I didn't like that they didn't tie it up at the end. And the running about was a bit annoying... the kiss was nice.
It was nice to see it on the larger screen, and costumes *were* nice.

www.veoh.com you can Download it there, I am watching it now, hehe to you all! How did you like the detail of Anne looking straight into the camera? I loved this, It made it very intimate to watch, like Anne is looking at us, and telling us the story

How did you like the detail of Anne looking straight into the camera? I loved this, It made it very intimate to watch, like Anne is looking at us, and telling us the story I really disliked that. It seemed like forced intimacy, but they didn't really tell us enough about her to get anything from it. I can only imagine what I would have thought if I hadn't read the book already though.

Just to let you all know, I wrote a review on Persuasion for PBS's Remotely Connected. The blogs and boards are all agog about this rendition of Persuasion - especially the ending. I thought Sally Hawkins was particularly effective (many people did not like her), and that Anthony Head made a great Sir Walter Elliot. I loved that they set the movie in Bath, but loathed the ending. In no way would a Regency miss run through town. And NEVER would she kiss her man in public. .....In no way would a Regency miss run through town. And NEVER would she kiss her man in public. That vexed me greatly! but it made some good drama (seen from the directors Point of view) I saw the 95' version last night and I like that better in the view of the romance between Anne and Wentworh, BUT if you get the chance of it watch the 71 version, it is great but they made Anne very pretty and thats the only fault IMO small pic but the only one i could find

I liked the '71 version well enough; Anne was well represented I think, and her sisters were wholly ridiculous as she should be, however it was very hard to stop myself from obsessing over the giant sixties fall on her head. That huge hair did shrink a bit over each episode, but it was too screaming sixties and it annoyed me.
And the gowns all had giant paisleys; even the decor was sixties to some degree.
What I do like about that series of old BBC versions is that you can identify the costumes throughout the adaptations, they used and reused gowns over and over again. You see the paisley ones from Persuasion used in different films, and Emma's gowns are also reused quite a bit.
Watch for them.
What's scary is that 1971 is the year I was born. ::eep::
