At Costume College we have a lot of costume themes we come up with ourselves each year, and recently they started doing Pink Princess. So I decided I would do mine in a Regency dress, which will be my white Reconstructing History pattern, and a pink open robe using the Butterick robe pattern. I'm actually working on two at a time, pink and periwinkle. The robe has been really easy to sew and this gives me a change of costume. Originally I wanted to extend the front of the robe under the bust so instead of a belt drawing it closed, part of the dress did. But when I did the muslin, it was throwing the lovely curve off. So I went back to the original way. I still don't know yet what I'm going to use for trim to go around the robe and the belt. I'm going to the Garment District on Saturday for some trim shopping, and with the help of my friends, I should come up with something. As promised, here's a peek at Pretty Pink Princess. I just have a lace panel on under it for an effect, and a white ribbon under the bust. The *girls* are solid as a rock and cannot be pushed anywhere, so it won't close as much as it will eventually. I have a silver clasp with white pearls I'd like to use. Photos are here at the bottom of the page www.pbase.com/cinnamonhrts/my_costumes&page=4

Val, this is so cute! Thanks for sharing. I believe *you* were the one who suggested using this pink fabric for my robe. I may be a little long in the tooth, but I do plan on being *cute* in it. I already have my tiara. BTW, I won't be posting the photo of the pink one on my LJ. It's one of my seekrit projects. But the periwinkle blue one might make it.

Thank you! My gown is going to have quarter length sleeves because I've come to the conclusion that short puffy sleeves make you look puffy. They're ok for the skinny little things but not the rest of us.

"Long in the tooth"? Phhhht-Snort! ;D You can be "cute as a button" well into your 80's!!! I'm with you on the puffed sleeve. It's just not me and I feel 'doofy' in them. I won't tell your seekrits if you don't! ;D I can't wait to see what it looks like with the sleeve on. Do you have the Sense and Sensibility ELC pattern? That 3/4 length sleeve might look really great with this. If you've already cut the Butterick sleeve, maybe consider putting a horizontal dart at the inside of the elbow to make the sleeve curve inward as period sleeves did.

Ooooo....pretty! I can't wait to see pictures of you in it at CC. Any girl can be a princess. You just need a true heart and a tiara, and you have both

I'm making the robe w/o any sleeve at all. I'm hoping to use my new Reconstructing History pattern for the gown. I don't have S&S's ELC pattern but I'm seriously thinking of adding it to my library. I like that it has a crossover bodice too. My poor LaMode Bagatelle pattern is getting seriously ignored.

Very Pretty! Thanks for sharing the photos :-) Thank you Lauren. I hope to have the periwinkle blue one sewn up tomorrow, and maybe can share pictures of that too. It's easier for me to do two at a time, once I figure it out. And this has been fairly simple to do too. *thank you Lord!!*

I had a productive visit to the Garment/Fabric District yesterday. I found the gold trims I needed to go around my open robes of my costume, and a beautiful round white stone pin with drop pearl to go in the center of the belt. I did the handsewing on the robes in the car during the drive up there, so today I can start pin and basting the trim on them. And I have a friend coming next week to help me fit my muslin for the gown, so I'll be able to cut that out and start sewing. Maybe even take a pic of me in the corset. I also started doing some handsewing on the flat felled seams of the chemise but didn't like it, so I'm just going to do machine sewing on it. It'll be quicker anyway, and at this point, no time can be wasted. My Victorian chemise just doesn't look right for Regency costumes. Once I get the trims basted on, I'll take more photos to share.

Progress is being made. I only have the trim pinned on the robe right now since I'm still hemming the gown. I'm still not sure if I like the gold trim. I wanted silver on both the Pink Princess and the Violet Princess but when I held silver up to them, they look awful. So my friends voted for the gold. There's always a possiblity I could use white but I can't get anymore of the white lace already on my gowns, and I really wanted it more grand with sparklies. Opinions please? Very pretty :-) I love the blue fabric. Thank you. It can't decide if it wants to be periwinkle blue or violet.

Gosh, Val! It's VERY pretty! I kind of understand your thoughts on a silver trim though. Did you purchase silver - just for a comparison? I can't imagine it would not look good with the pretty blue!
As it is, it's still lovely.
