hello, just was directed over here by the Oregon Regency Society.
my name is Julia, i've been an 18th C re enactor for a number of years and just begun to be interested in the regency period. i'm a seamstress as part of the hobby and love the simplicity of regency style clothing. very much looking forward to making some new clothes. also hoping possibly to visit england this year for a regency ball. and last, but most certainly not least, i love Jane Austen.
yours faithfully, julia

thank you tess. do not believe i've felt so welcome before. i shall have to practice my manners, and attend to scrubbing up after the more begrimed 18th century.

Welcome, Miss Julia,
Not all of us on this forum have the benefit of being in Oregon and able to attend the ORS events, so we must live vicariously through those who do.
While I am especially interested in the Regency, the 18th century has a lot to recommend itself, too. I hope you do get to attend your regency ball in England. Is this the Jane Austen celebration in Bath?

pleased to make your acquaintance, mr. goblin,
at present, i have neither the opportunity to visit the 18th C or regency periods, as i am on an expedition in the far east. (truely) so, i must live vicariously as well.
it was made known to me that there is a very elegant ball in Bath in September, though i have yet to work out how i might attend.
and what is there to recommend for socializing, if you are unable to attend the festivities in oregon? it is a pity to be far from these events.
yrhs, julia

Welcome Julia, I'm glad you found your way here. Julia isn't in oregon, she is a member of a yahoo group that I am member of, and I referred her here when she mentioned having several fabulous shawls available for purchase. Please feel free to post pictures, Julia... I'm quite curious. And welcome to the RSA.

Ah! Miss Julia. I read your shawl posting with interest. Are you still in India? What is the availability of other fabric that might be useful?
You are most welcome, indeed.

Dear Miss Julia, Welcome to the polite society here. Everyone is has been so nice and help abounds when needed. I see that you are in Siam. Is that your residence or a visit of business or pleasure? Just curious as someone from the other side of the world. Surely I would have thought that you had reached the edge of the earth by now If you are just visiting Siam, whereabouts do you call home? That's enough of me being nosey. Again, welcome to the board.

My dear Miss Julia. In a land of silk production, one must always be alert to excellent prices on non-slubby silks and silk brocades. A dear friend visited her family in the very spot where you now reside. She returned home with trunkloads of something called dupioni, only to find it is not appropriate for use prior to the mid-1880's. Be on your guard, madam, I beseech you.

I've been to Boston a few times and made sure I got my fix of GOOD seafood while there. On the great plains there isn't much in the way of 'good' seafood so I take advantage when on the coasts. Yes indeed. This event, one week from tonight, has been a whirlwind. What a great description. Going into the last week will be most of the decorations to be made. Almost everything is in place and it will be a lot of fun! After I have a few weeks to get everything cleaned up and put away, and I have a chance to decompress I'll think about if I want to do this again. It's going to be fun, but especially doing it in such a short time frame I've really had to keep my nose to the grind stone. I'll be sure to post pictures and let everyone know how it went.

Mistress All Seeing,
the search for muslins has for a short while occupied me, so far turning up not so many choices on this errand. most of the textile shops are overcome with, it is almost too much to write in polite company, polyester!
i have found one small shop with a couple of choices. and i intend to wander more in this pursuit.
i shall endeavor get some samples and descriptions.
yrhs, miss julia
